HOUSE OF Z

House of Z is a documentary about designer Zac Posen and how he worked his way up in the fashion industry, but was knocked down along the way. Personally, I think his work is beautiful and elegant and creates the most stunning ball gowns and red carpet looks, he came from being an art student and worked hard to become a world famous fashion designer. I’d only really seen him on project runway but since watching this documentary I’ve taken a massively liking to him

The documentary starts by showing his childhood, he was born into a family where creativity and imagination was their life and was thoroughly encouraged. Growing up in the art community of Soho, New York meant he was constantly surrounded by art in multiple forms, mainly from his Father who was fascinated by the building process, meaning that Posen was therefore under the influence of creation and art from the early stages of his life.

He joined Art school and the people he met said he was the one who could simply take a piece of fabric and produce something amazing. He interned at the Met at the Costume Institute and looking for more turned to London where he would study at Central Saint Martins, following in the footsteps of major designers before him.

Unfortunately when the recession hit in the US, disposable income was at an all time low and people weren't spending on luxury they were only buying necessities. Posen’s goods were luxury so he took a big hit to sales at this time. He couldn't afford materials or labour so had to stop production and in the process got a new team. Posen’s hard determination and eye for elegance paid off though when his show of 25 pieces (normally shows have about 35-75) impresses everyone and he gets back on track

His beautifully created gowns and attention to detail are what made him the icon that he is today. And complete determination and passion for what he loves really shows throughout the whole documentary, I personally think he is a true inspiration to anyone in the fashion industry and before I watched this documentary I had no idea what a credit he is.
